Tried to start the generator with the switch, starter solenoid wont engage. Then put 24 volts positive to
Solenoid terminal post to engage solenoid. Had big spark at positive terminal.
Now with panel switch off if I connect battery starter engages and motor turns over.
Did I damage a diode or contact?
When hooked up correctly, did you have voltage at the solenoid? If not, you need to figure out why. Could be a safety issue (oil pressure circuit or other safety circuit). Not sure what you mean by panel switch off (the button kill switch?). If that is off, you should not be able to use the generator. If you can, you have some other wiring issue and perhaps someone has been inside the unit before and something is not wired correctly.
