Is anyone on this site familiar enough with the 805B to know if any readily available AVR can be used in place of the labyrinth of unnecessary components up in the control area to handle the extremely elementary task of voltage regulation?

I have a couple of these units that were bought cheap (as most are) specifically because of the overly complex dumpster fire of electrical junk would not let them run, or would not let them run for long before shutting them down again and again until the previous owners dumped them, as most do. Years ago I removed the injection pump top covers and replaced them with mechanical units specifically for stationary generators. They literally just have a single wire to turn ON/OFF. Both of these units have a simple mushroom switch on the side for ON/OFF and a weatherproof push button for start. They are protected by a Murphy panel with low oil pressure and high coolant temp shutdowns. The upper control areas are padlocked shut 24/7. They sit on 200 and 400 gallon sub-base tanks and have electromechanical 4hr run timers in case they are left running unattended. For the past 5 or 6 years these have been humming along powering job sites. We have lost water pumps, belts, alternator and an oil line, all successfully shut down by the Murphy panel. Life was good….

Fast-forward…. now one of the units will only intermittently power whatever is handling the AVR and the screen. Therefore…. the unit only intermittently outputs power.

Since these units in no way need any of that stuff up in that control area to run the engine and spin the alternator, do any of you know if there is an easy swap to perhaps 805A parts or something along those lines where a simple AVR could be employed in place of all the computerized nonsense.

The field excitation wires are available at TB8 in the AC output compartment if a universal AVR is the answer but I am hoping one of you may have enough familiarity with these units to know if a simple AVR version is available from a similar model to get this unit reliable.

No, I in no way will ever use the electronic junk in it now. In fact, anyone who correctly answers this can HAVE as much of that as they want. All the blinking little lights your heart desires.

Lets see how knowledgeable you guys are.

      Here’s another question…

Is the AVR still in this unit and the electronic dumpster fire above it is just disabling it? Did they leave the basic AVR in these units and just use the stuff up top to replace the rheostat and turn the unit ON/OFF?

If so…. boy that would likely be an easy UNdo, just like the electronic engine control UNdo…
