      generator runs good , powers up house lights, but when a/c unit compressor turns on, a/c circuit interruptor trips. A/C unit is two ton.

      That is around a 50amp starting load at 240v. What else is running when you attempt to start AC. Note that this is near the max for an 802A. Nothing is wrong, the load is too big.
